Colonial Style Pool House
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "Best of Show"
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "Designer's Choice"
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "First Place, Custom Home"
The client desired to create an entertaining space that matched their Colonial style home, but with one distinct difference. This space needed to look rustic, more like the servants quarters vs. the formal decor that was standard in fine colonial style homes of the 1800’s. It also had to include appliances with modern conveniences, so hiding those behind cabinetry or tucked inside the walk-in pantry was key. On this project, designer Jim Madsen both created the plan documents and completed the interior design.
The interiors feature: soapstone kitchen & bathroom counters, herringbone pattern brick flooring; rustic, reclaimed wood from the mid 1800’s (cabinets, doors, trim & ceiling beams); blackened iron cabinet and door hardware, lighting fixtures & ceiling fans; a stone pizza oven; a custom, hand forged, copper exhaust hood; and early American furniture and accessories throughout, including an authentic war of 1812 musket mounted on the fireplace mantle.
Ranch House to Transitional Style Remodel
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "Fist Place, Kitchen"
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "First Place, Bath"
This ranch style house was in need of updating. For the most part, the original footprint was maintained, but we moved/removed walls and raised the ceiling by a foot to open up the space. Wood paneling was removed to brighten up the home.
In the kitchen, dark wood cabinets were replaced with white custom cabinetry, a walk-in pantry was added, storage and counter work space was significantly increased, and upgraded appliances were added for convenience and functionality. An unused patio area north of the kitchen was enclosed to create a laundry/mud room and bath. Having formerly been in the garage, the indoor laundry area is the homeowners most appreciated update!
In the master bedroom, the unused closet space from the guest bedroom was annexed into the master suite, enlarging the bathroom and creating a walk-in closet. To replace the closet space in the guest bedroom, a custom wall unit was built to include closets, drawers and a Murphy bed.
1970’s Ranch House Remodel
2015 AIBD California Design Award, "Second Place, Kitchen"
2015 AIBD California Design Award,"Second Place, Bath"
We transformed a dark, 1970’s ranch house into a classy, light, open space. The front entry was moved to a different side of the house to match natural traffic patterns. A master suite was created from what used to be the front entry and front room. The wall separating the kitchen from the great room was removed, deleting the long hallway look from one side of the house to the other. It opened up the space, making it conducive for interaction and entertaining. 1970’s elements that dated the house were removed, dark wood was painted white and the dark fireplace stone was replaced with white to give a clean, classy look.
Bluff House Remodel
We transformed a cluttered, traditional 1980's home into a clean, sleek contemporary design. This 3,400 sq ft., 3-story home overlooking the river now features a gourmet kitchen, 2 wet bars, a media room and a great room with a live reef aquarium. An outdoor entertaining area was added that includes a covered outdoor kitchen with Wolf appliances, vanishing edge pool, gas fire pit, fire and water features that are anchored by a new pool house. Design Classics handled all aspects of the remodel, including the interior and exterior design.

Classic Soapstone Kitchen Remodel
In this kitchen remodel, we relocated the dining space to an unused office and removed the wall to the entry to create an arched passage with columns. White cabinets are contrasted by rich, dark soapstone counters. A larger window over the sink floods the kitchen with light and provides a clear view of the homeowners almond orchard. With the dining room relocated, the west wall of the kitchen houses the bake center on the left, the wet bar on the right and wine storage and serving dishes in the center.
